e-scape est une initiative du groupe Ars Acustica de l’Union Européenne de Radiodiffusion (UER), présidé par Erik-Mikael Karlsson. Il s’agit de promouvoir le renouvellement du paysage sonore, genre artistique dont la radiodiffusion est le vecteur privilégié, et dont de nombreuses radios européennes sont pionnières. e-scape propose de revisiter l’environnement sonore de nos villes, campagnes ou maisons dans un contexte actuel qui permet aux jeunes créateurs de radio et d’art sonore d’exploiter les nouvelles techniques numériques et interactives pour dépeindre notre quotidien dans des formes d’expression novatrices. e-scape est appelé à se décliner comme une série d’événements radiophoniques paneuropéens soutenus par l’UER, qui met à disposition son réseau satellite, et que Radiophonic 2007 inaugure à l’initiative d’André Defossez (Musiq 3, RTBF).

Can we make a same statement for radio ?
What if radio wasn’t invented 100 years ago ?
RADIO-NO-RADIO try’s to find answers, listen therefore to the silences between today’s radio stations.
We hear randomized long-, middle-, shortwave and fm silence samples on a interactive 16 channel speaker installation.
From 13.00 these radio silences sound in the public library DE DRIEHOEK Antwerp / Ekeren until it closes at 20.00 . Continuing we organize an ART’S BIRTHDAY party from 20.00 to 24.00
4 musicians and 1 actor improvise in the RADIO-NO-RADIO soundscape. The public is free to walk around. This performance becomes part of the EBU ARS ACUSTICA event ART’S BIRTHDAY 2007.

With regards to the fact that the first radio “show” mixing music and spoken word was successfully broadcast 100 years ago, Kunstradio wants to commemorate this exciting moment of radio’s history; luckily Radio’s birthday more or less coincides with that of Art 
, so we’ll not only be celebrating 1,000,044 years of art, but also 100 years of radio; Ö1 which was established 40 years ago as the cultural channel of Austrian National Radio, and last but not least Ö1 Kunstradio’s 20th anniversary are two more great occasions to celebrate!
The best of all reasons for a very promising party!
And very promising is the line-up of contributors, too!
In the spirit of the first radio show, the bits and bobs of the performances will focus on spoken word, music, and “firsts” in radio from around the world. While the evenings “narrator” Friedrich Tietjen will present the stunning story of radio, and how practices in the medium’s use have changed over the past 100 years, served as short, but compact bites of the storyline, Volkmar Klien will listen into the audio-streams from the thriving birthday parties around the globe, and give the guests a personally composed impression of what’s going on out there, mixed with samples of memorable radio moments.
Young writers from Vienna’s literature scene, from poetry slammers to spoken word artists, will comment on and work with radio from their point of views, as well as we are awaiting a remote birthday present in form of an especially made video from Felix Kubin, label boss of gagarin.records, radio artist and musician / performer. The combo GipsyRadio will interlink between the narratives, picking up the different modes and moods, and interpreting these in their specific musical language.
With the grande dame of media, Radio, turning 100, all her friends and contemporaries are long dead. Thus, Tonic Train are performing a special birthday concert: “Dinner for Two“ addresses a new generation of transistors gathered at the Kulturcafe to listen to the old stories of Radio when it still was a medium that still used to hiss, click, and pipe broadcast via four microtransmitters.
What else is to mention? Several layers of the party will be broadcast on 4 special channels via microtransmitters on site, so bring your radio receiver to get your individual mix!

20 Years EBU Ars Acustica / CD
Ars Acustica is a group of producers and editors of radio art programs in national-public broadcasting corporations in Europe. Founded in 1989 within the European Broadcasting Union EBU, the Ars Acustica group aims at initiating and realising projects, promoting radio art, exchanging productions between European radios, and eventually open up a space for debate on the future of radio, of art and of radio art as such.
Recent Ars Acustica projects include the annual Art’s Birthday celebration on 17th January and a series of live concerts/radio performances on varying locations, as well as the publication of a double CD to mark the 20th anniversary of the group’s existence. The CD “20 years Ars Acustica” includes pieces that were submitted in an internal competition, chosen by the jury (Czech Radio), Erik Mikael Karlsson (Swedish Radio) as well as Elisabeth Zimmermann (ORF Kunstradio).
The chosen pieces are by the following artists: Alessandro Bosetti, Escoitar.org (Juan-Gil López & Chiu Longina), Arsenije Jovanovic, Els Viaene, Tomás Pálka, Sofia Kamayianni, José Iges & Concha Jerez, Hanna Hartman, Miguel Azguime, Dmitriy Nikolaev, Stefano Giannotti, Anton Bruhin, Juraj Duris and ProTon Sonic Art (Agnieszka Waligórska & Pekka Sirén).

Café Sonore: Ars Acustica Euro Radio Concert

Op 8 februari dit jaar vond bij Radio Slovenië een concert plaats ihkv het Ars Acustica Euro Radio Season. Er werden 6 werken van uitgesproken radio en geluidskunstenaars gepresenteerd in een aaneengesloten vorm. In Café Sonore uitzending van 23 oktober 2011 hoor je dit concert. met werken van Bor Turel, Igor Likar, Vojko Frelih, Jasna Vidakovic & Stane Kosmerlj, Bostjan Perovsek en Klemen Veber. Alle werken portretteren op de een of andere manier een specifieke omgeving in Slovenië.

Bor Turel maakte in de vorm van een suite een werk gebaseerd op de geluiden in Pohorje, een bergstreek in het 
noordoosten van Slovenië. Sounds in a landscape in Metamorphosis, zo heet zijn stuk.
Igor Likar plaats in zijn compositie Ecophonia Maris de geluiden van de maritieme wereld zo contrastrijk mogelijk tegenover elkaar.
Vojko Frelih maakte een soundscape portret van een paardenstal en Jasna Vidakovic &Â ,Stane Kosmerlj, maakten een mooie compilatie van Sloveense klokken met als titel: The Carillon of Slovenian bells.
Bostjan Perovsek liet zich inspireren door de tekeningen van patiënten in een psychiatrische kliniek in Idrija. Two faces along the way, zo heet zijn stuk.
Klemen Veber maakte de electroacoustische compositie Ignis -Fire. Dit werk, zo zegt hij, is een auditieve metafoor van het universele levensvuur, het leven zoals de tijd die voortbrengt, de tijd waarin we leven en de tijd die nog moet komen.
